Leaf Printing

Materials Needed:

  • Sheet of smooth plastic (the inside of a Tetra Pak also works well)
  • Small sponge or sponge roller
  • Craft Paints (water based)
  • Tray or old plastic box for mixing paint
  • White or coloured paper (smooth)
  • Material for printing e.g. leaves, flowers or feathers

Instructions:

  1. Put a little bit of paint in the tray and lightly coat the roller or sponge.
  2. Lay the botanical material on the plastic sheet or Tetra Pak surface and cover both sides in paint. A thin coat will give more detail. A thick coat will loose detail, but not to worry you can simply print with it a few times until you get a desirable affect.
  3. Take the painted material and place it on a sheet of paper. Lay a second sheet of paper on top and rub over the back with your hand to transfer the paint on to the paper.
  4. Carefully peel off the top sheet of paper and remove the botanical material to reveal a front and back print.

* Try mixing colours to create new shades or even apply more than one colour for a vibrant look.
