November Printing Technique: Fingerprinting

A very simple printing technique this month, and that is fingerprinting. It is the process of capturing the unique patterns on a person’s fingertips by inking the fingertip and then pressing it onto a non-textured paper. Fingerprinting is mostly used by law enforcement as a form of personal identification, but here I use it to create art. Using a pigment ink graphic pen, single fingerprints can be transformed into birds, animals etc. with quite individual characters. I also tried to create a tree image using a rainbow of colours in a technique similar to Pointillism. It is lots of fun and there are so many possibilities, so get printing.
